“Jannat Ke Pattay” novel is my favorite collection from all novels written by Nimra Ahmed. The beginning of this novel starts with these lines:
The laptop was resting on a pillow, and she was lying on her stomach in front of it for hours. The glow from the screen lit up her face. With one hand under her chin, she was gently sliding a finger from her other hand over the laptop’s touchpad.
Her long, straight black hair lay pushed back. Her eyes were just like them—black, large, and deeply Mughal-like, with a silvery glow in them. Her face looked like it was made of cream—fair, soft, and radiant.
She kept her gaze fixed on the screen, moving her finger across the touchpad. One click later, the next page appeared, and suddenly her moving finger froze—followed by restlessness. She quickly pressed two or three keys.
As the next page was loading, she nervously brushed aside a strand of hair from the right side of her face with her finger.
A few seconds later, the page loaded. She leaned closer to the screen with unease. A few loose strands of hair fell forward over her shoulders again.
As she kept reading, her wide black eyes began to widen even more with surprise. Her lips parted slightly, and her entire being sank into disbelief.
Those moments moved slowly—as if she needed time to convince herself that what she was reading was real. And as soon as her mind grasped that thread of belief, she sat up with a jolt.
